Ivan Aivazovsky. “Ship by the Shore”
Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky is an outstanding romantic artist, considered one of the greatest masters of seascapes. The painting "Ship by the Shore" is one of the best and most recognizable of all the artist's works, painted in 1880. The genre of the painting is Marina.
The canvas "Ship by the shore" depicts a stormy sea and a ship fighting the elements. The entire foreground of the painting is filled with foaming waves that come in a series on the shore.
Breaking on the coastal rocks, the water rises up and shimmers with different colors of the rainbow. The blue sky is already visible in some places through gray clouds, and it becomes clear to us that the storm is gradually subsiding.
Against the gloomy sky, we see the graceful silhouette of a ship resisting the elements. He is depicted in the picture on the left.. Under the influence of waves and wind, the sails are strongly tilted towards the water, but nevertheless the ship strives to align its course. The fierce battle with the elements for the sailors is already over, and now the cherished coast has finally appeared in their field of vision.
The black sloping surface of the earth is visible in the foreground on the left side of the canvas. Two large boulders protrude from the water in front of her, against which the foam waves rushing onto the shore are beating with force. This is where the ship is heading.
The painting is represented by a wide palette of shades. Near the shore, the waves appear cloudy, greenish-brown. But the further you go, the more the sea acquires a calmer turquoise hue. Seagulls soar in the sky among the clouds. The storm is still raging on the left in the picture, while the sun is peeking through the foggy veil on the right.
The canvas evokes mixed feelings. When looking at the picture for a long time, anxiety is gradually replaced by a feeling of peace, as a result of which you involuntarily begin to admire the beauty and grandeur of the sea element.
