«Мой родной город»

   I live in the town of Bryansk. It is situated in the western part of Russia. It stands on the river Desna. Our town was founded in 985, so it has a long and interesting history.

   Peter the Great built ships and docks on the bank of the Desna. Then during the Great Patriotic War Bryansk was famous for its partisan movement. That’s why many town streets and squares were named after war heroes. Partizanskaya Polyana is a special place with monuments, dugouts and a museum. On the 9th of May veterans from different parts of Russia meet in this place.

   There are some monuments for well-known people in our town. For example, Fyodor Tutchev and Alexey Tolstoy, famous Russian poets, lived and worked in Bryansk region. There are museums about their personal lives in Ovstug and Krasniy Rog. Bryansk’s central park is named after Alexey Tolstoy. It is famous for its wooden sculptures of fairy-tale characters. Besides, Yuriy Gagarin , the first cosmonaut in the world, visited our town in 1966. There is a monument to Gagarin not far from the park.

   Now Bryansk is a beautiful town. It is very green because there are many trees and flowers in the town parks and streets. Modern buildings are built in our town every year. I love Bryansk, because it is my hometown. My family and my friends live here.
