New Year in Russia New Year celebrations in the past During the celebration of the New Year in the Kremlin there were ceremonies "About the beginning of a new summer". The ceremony began about 9 a.m. The tsar came out in holiday clothes, laid his hands on the Gospel and icons, and was blessed by the patriarch. After that, the tsar and the patriarch congratulated the clergy on the new year. The tsar responded with a bow of the head and the patriarch with a blessing. After that the tsar went to the Annunciation Church for supper.

New Year customs and traditions in Russia On New Year's Eve it is customary to dress in new and better clothes, as if you enter the new year with new clothes, you will walk around in new clothes for the whole year. It is also believed that it is impossible to give away money on New Year's Eve, otherwise you will have to give it away the whole year. That is why before the New Year all debts were paid in advance, all offenses were forgiven, and those who were in quarrels were obliged to make up.

Since the late 1980s, household fireworks began to be sold, and it gradually became a tradition to light them immediately after midnight by residents of the community, neighborhood or house. Since the late 1980s, household fireworks began to be sold, and it gradually became a tradition to light them immediately after midnight by residents of the community, neighborhood or house. Since the late 1970s, there has been a trend in Russia and other European countries to associate the arrival of the New Year with one of the animals of the Chinese horoscope (rat, bull, pig, and others), even though the Chinese New Year comes later. Sleeping on New Year's Eve is also not allowed, otherwise the whole year will pass sluggishly and uninteresting (except for children under the age of 7).

New Year in the UK Celebrating the New Year in the past The Celts celebrated the New Year on the night of October 31 to November 1, when the harvest was completed. The ancient Celts revered the spruce as a magical tree and the abode of a forest deity: it was an evergreen tree, meaning immortal. People would gather around the oldest spruce and make sacrifices so that the forest spirit would favor them. With the advent of Christianity, sacrifices were forbidden.

New Year's traditions and customs in the UK Britain has a rich tradition of celebrating the New Year. When the clock strikes midnight, everyone hugs each other, wishes each other a happy new year, and drinks champagne. Many cities launch and broadcast fireworks. The larges one takes place in the City of London: thousands of people gather on the banks of the Thames to see a twelve-minute light show. It begins just after the chimes strike midnight. London traditionally has a New Year's Eve parade, which is called the largest in the world. It was first organized in 1987 to collect donations for local charities.

One of the most popular New Year's holiday fun in Great Britain is Secret Santa. This game involves a secret exchange of gifts between family members, friends, or colleagues. One of the most popular New Year's holiday fun in Great Britain is Secret Santa. This game involves a secret exchange of gifts between family members, friends, or colleagues. The rules are simple: participants write their names on small pieces of paper, put them in a hat or box, and mix them up. Then each person pulls out one piece of paper, but does not unfold it in front of everyone. To the person whose name is written, he or she must prepare a gift. Secret Santa writes the recipient's name on the gift, but does not write his or her own. At a party, the participants gather together, and find his gift. Everyone tries to guess who their Secret Santa was.

Similarities Having analyzed the New Year in Russia and Great Britain I found out that they have something in common: An old man with a white beard who gives presents, Old men move in a sleigh Both grandfathers have helpers On this holiday people decorate the Christmas tree These holidays are winter holidays The main dish - roasted meat.

Differences The holidays are different: the names of the main characters are Father Frost and Santa Claus, Father Frost‘s sleigh is driven by a trio of horses which move on snow, Santa Claus' sleigh is pulled by reindeer which fly through the air, Santa Claus is helped by gnomes, and Father Frost by forest animals.

Conclusion It was interesting for me to do this project, I learned a lot about the New Year in the UK and in Russia.
