The lesson of English poets and poetry
1.Literature is the mirror of our life. It shows the history of people, who created it, their achievements and difficulties.
Poetry knows no boundaries. On our shelves, next to the books of Russian and Soviet poets, there are books by Shakespeare, Byron, Burns, Kipling and many other authors. They lived centuries ago but their poetry is still popular nowadays.
Today we have gathered together to listen and read their poems. Their poems are translated into many languages and people not only in Britain but in Russia sing and recite them.
2.This is the birthplace of the great English poet and playwright William Shakespeare. He was born on April 23, 1564. His name is known all over the world. The second half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries are known as "Shakespeare Era". He is the author of at least 17 comedies, 11 tragedies, 5 poems and 154 sonnets. Shakespeare's life is little known, he shares the fate of the vast majority of other English playwrights of the era, whose personal life contemporaries were little interested in. There are different views on Shakespeare's personality and biography.
