Introduction

The subject of our study is the life and heroic past of soldiers who participated

in the Great Patriotic war and Afghan war. These people are the residents of our town Chervonopartizansk.

In school №1 there is a museum of Valour and Glory. It was opened on the initiative of most Afghan soldiers. The museum consists of two halls. The first hall is called «Afghanistan is a pain in my soul» (Application 1). The second room is a hall dedicated to the Great Patriotic war. (Application2).

The opening of museum was celebrated on May 4, 2005. The war veterans and local choir of veterans were invited (Application3). The party «in tears» was glorious.

Last year I visited the museum. It was exciting. I thought to go through these cruel wars; one must be strong not only physically but morally. I wanted to know more about the fate of people who participated in the Afghan war, the boys with dignity fulfilled their duty.

I am proud of the fact, that our countrymen were awarded heroic orders and medals for courage and bravery.

Actuality

Our countrymen defended Motherland in two wars. We keep the memory of the heroes. Their life is a model of service to native country and great heroism. Some soldiers died a hero’s death.

That’s why I think that the theme of my work is actual. It teachers the young people to be brave and honest, love their native land and its inhabitants.

Nowadays the patriotism of modern youth disappears. I think the Afghan soldiers and war veterans are the best example of heroism and patriotic devotion to ideals that were morel forces in the name of a single goal – the struggle for peace.

Aims:

to honor the memory of heroes in two wars;

to show care and concern for the invalids and veterans;

to take part in collecting information and materials about life and heroic deeds of our countrymen;

to turn to lessons of history, which remain just as relevant today, into the personal convictions of youth;

to do the search work.

Tasks

to read literature and analyze the material which contains the information of war heroes

to meet the soldiers of Afghan war

to meet the son of the hero of the Soviet Union – Ivan Parygin, take an interview.

to meet veterans of the Great Patriotic war, gather photos and information about them for the museum.

Part I Participation of our Countrymen in the Afghan War

Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a country of mountains and desert plateau. It is very hot in summer but in winter it is strong forest. The rivers are shallow. It is lack of water in summer and winter. That’s why people are settled in the valleys of rivers.

More than 20 nationalities live there. Most of them are Pushtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks and Khazars. Pushtuns, who live in the mountains of south and south-east, are warlike people. Men are always carrying guns. All of the populations profess Islam.

As a centralized country, Afghanistan appeared in 1747 and it is called Durraniyska state. By the end of the 18th century it was a strong state. In 19th century Britain twice tried to conquer the country but it was unsuccessful.

Republic of Afghanistan was proclaimed on July, 1973. Before it there was a king.

In 1979 the Afghan government asked for help to defend the revolution. The USSR satisfied their request.

In 1989 Soviet troops left Afghanistan according to the agreement signed by Afghanistan in Geneva.

The 15th of February is the Memorial Day. War lasted 3338 days. But the tears of parents, wives, brothers and sisters haven’t dried yet.

Over half a million people took part in the Afghan war. More than 14 thousand were killed, from Lugansk region 161 men. Among them Alexander Golubkov (1960-1980), Sergey Zherebytskiy (1960-1981), Alexander Zhulkovskiy (1968-1987), Sergey Markov (1954-1988).

1.2. A Combat Mission

During the first years of Afghan War the news about death of our soldiers were far from our country, people lived without understanding what and were was happening, why dozens of coffins come to the country with bodies of their own dear sons.

At the end of April the terrible news came to the family of Zherebytskiy: their son Seryozha perished...

Seryozha, as all boys of his generation, grew in the happy and the best country in the world, as it was told then.

He studied at school well, was a young pioneer and later became a Komsomol member.

On the 4th of May 1979 he was taken to the Soviet Army by the Lenin region military committee of Lugansk. There Serhiy Zherebytskyi learned the military profession, mastered the arms and didn't know, as nobody new at that time that very soon would begin the Afghan War, tragic epic.

In December 1979 the military units from Termes and Kushka moved to the South, somewhere among them was then Sergey Zherebytskiy. Where was he at war and how was he there? Main documents of that period keep silence. All dates about military actions were either abolished or kept in the secret archives. Everything was covered by international duty, by help to friendly Afghanistan.

The awarding documents of Sergey Zherebytskiy read: "Fulfilling the International Duty on the territory of Afghanistan since 29 of January 1980 till 22 of April 1980 showed himself

a brave, courageous and determined soldier. On April 22, 1980 carrying a militant task, faithful to his oath. Showing courage, perished heroically. The news about death was received on the 23rd of April 1980.

On April 29, 1980 he was buried in the settlement Alexandrovka of Sverdlovsk district Lugansk Region.

The conclusion: "For courage and heroism, shown during fulfilling international duty in Republic Afghanistan is worthy of awarding the Order of Red Star posthumously".

In the settlement of Alexandrovka the Memorial Plate was opened to Sergey Zherebytskiy after the long nine years

1.3. The Last Field

"Doing his international duty on the territory of Afghanistan from 20.11.1986 till 11.06.1987 proved to be brave, resolute military man. On June 11, 1987 carrying militant task faithful to his oath, showing courage and heroism - perished. Summons about his death was received on 12.06.87 from the military unit 9413. On the 20th of June 1987 was buried in the village Provallye of Sverdlovsk district Lugansk Region.

The presentation is coordinated with Soviet Party and control organs.

The conclusion: For courage and heroism is worthy of the Order of Red Star (posthumously).

Alexander was a real friend and there, in burning Afghan, everything was held on the real people and on the sincere real soldier brotherhood. At the State farm Provalskiy people who worked together with Sasha can confirm that Sasha was a real friend. He is remembered here. Sasha was not afraid of work though it is not easy to grow corn. You must be fond of it. And Sasha liked it, he liked the native fields, liked the life very much.

Aexander Zhulkovskiy was called up by Military Committee of Sverdlovsk on the 19th of April 1986. Sasha didn't look for easy service. After some training he went to Afghanistan. The younger sergeant Zhulkovskiy becomes the commander of section. It was difficult for inexperienced sergeant to have authority with competent soldiers. The first battle goings out put everything to its place. The experience comes to courage and ingenuity. And the experience in Afghanistan came with blood and pain, with bitterness of losses and salt soldier sweat.

"Difficult in training, easy in battle" said sergeant Zhulkovskiy to the young solders. He served in Afghanistan half a year already. It was 1987. Sasha wrote letters to his friend and relatives and asked them not to be worried, but was sat at night recollecting native places.

Where is the last field on which walked Alexander Zhulkovskiy? This last field in his life was ploughed not by tractor, but by bursts of shells and mines...

1.4. A Diligent Pupil who Looked Like Tyorkin...

He had a rich in facts, not like the others, biography. He had to serve in many places. And addition, it seemed he was happy everywhere. He was really older than the boys, who were taken to the Soviet Army from the towns and villages of Lugansk Region and then sent to Afghanistan.

He had time for many things. There is a usual working settlement in Sverdlovsk District named Komsomolskiy. That is where Sergey Markov was born in 1954. And later he had a usual life of Soviet Children: finished the eight-form school in Sverdlovsk, getting only good and excellent narks, then entered a medical technical school, after that working in the village Krepy of Stanichno-Lugansk District, where he had his practice as a student.

At was still long before the entering the Soviet Army the territory of Afghanistan, when Sergey was taken to the military service. And he got to his got to Germany, and they respected him, calling their doctor.

At the very end of 1986 Sergey Markov was sent to Kabul.

He was a brave and very modest man, the warrant officer of medical service. Everywhere: in the Soviet Union, in Germany and in Afghanistan he saved people from death, but he could not save himself from it. He had no time. The illness threw him down.

For ten days he was in reanimation of Kabul hospital, later in the Middle Asia and then in the military-medical Academy of Leningrad. His heart stopped in May 1988.

The former class-mate of Sergey Markov Camil Uldanov informs about

Sergey: "He had many friends."

At the school performance "Vasiliy Tyorkin" the main part was always played by Sergey. This rule was given to him, because he was merry and communicative and looked like his hero with his character.

And the last photo of Sergey Markov. He is at the foot of the Afghan mountain. The dog is at his feet.

They look not at the objective of camera, but some-what aside. To the side where Motherland was waiting for them behind the mountains.

1.5. A Step to Immortality

About Sasha’s participation in ten fighting operations knew nobody of his relatives. They didn't know about it, because Sasha never mentioned a word about them. If he even could inform about war, he wouldn't do it, because he did not want to hurt his mother's heart.

Only some weeks were left to his demobilization. As many of his service-mates he carefully crossed out in small calendar the days, which had passed, each of them could be by right equated with eternity. That one, for example, when he, Alexander Golubkov, and his comrades had to abolish large band.

It was October. In our place this month is rather warm with refreshering mushroom rains and a lot of colorful leaves. In the mountains of Afghan - it was the severe wind and penetrating cold.

Sasha drove his battle machine of expeditor forces in the chain of attacking to the main heights, occupied by the enemy. A private Soldier Aexander Golubkov was known in his excellent mark not during the studding, but in the hart, severe battles. He served an example for many soldiers as a man, who did not lose self-control in any situation and always found the only correct decision.

And now he is driving his battle machine to the positions of enemy. He has to live only some seconds. The mine is waiting for him camouflaged by enemies. Sasha’s machine will burst on that mine. Sasha will perish. And with such expensive price he will give the possibility for his attacking comrades to survive and to defeat the enemies.

"Died like a hero" will be written about him. The last instants of life. Did Sasha know that he would perish? Perhaps he did. But he did not give up the right to be in the first ranks of attacking.

1.6. Heroes of Our Native Town

The boys of our native town Chervonopartizansk also honorably fulfilled their international duty in Afghanistan. Many of them are with thankful letters, medals, high government awards. A Sapper must be very attentive at his work. He must think not only of himself because his mistake can be the cause of his friend's death. During their militant service they have to do their work under the fire of enemy. Such was the work of Ivan Ripka. He had demined 24 mines and 11 demolition bombs while staying in Afghanistan. Fulfilling his battle task he took away from the fire the commander of platoon Yuri Ryabov. Ivan Ripka has thankful letters and is awarded the medal "For Battle Services" and the "Red Star" other.

The school-leavers of our school served in Afghanistan too. Forever
Afghan will stay in the hearts of Yuri Ageyev, Yuri Gorshcov, Yuri Gryaznov, Victor Donoshenco, Sergey Lisnychiy, and Pavel Kutuzov and Yuri
Sukhinin. Victor Donoshenco operated aviation machineries. His task was to find the people, whose machines were killed down and, dead or alive, to carry them to the Motherland. Victor was awarded with two medals "For Battle Services" and "Bravery Medal".

Yuri Sukhinin, our school-leaver, was a commander of motorized group whose task war to guard our country's frontier. And he was awarded the Medal "For Distinction in Guarding the Staterontier".

Yuri Gorshcov was a part of motorized attacking troops. He was awarded with "Bravery Medal", "For Distinction in Guarding the State Frontier", "From the thankful Afghan People". Nowadays is working at the "Krasniy Partizan" mine as a master-blaster.

Pavel Kutuzov with a rifle company accompanied the heavily loaded Lorries with goods for people's economy, took part in the battles, and was wounded twice. Awarded with "Bravery Medal", "Red Star Order", medal "Militant Valour".

The Afghan War veterans live and work in our town. Their children study in our school.

These heroic deeds are in our hearts.

1.7. The Monument to Afghan Soldiers

The monument to Afghan soldiers was created in 2001, thanks to Chervonopartyzansk Organization of Sverdlovsk Afghan Veterans Union. The monument is located on the central Alley in our town. (Application4).

The triumphal meetings are held these. Every year on February, 15 the residents and guests of our town come to honor the memory of fallen soldiers in such cruel war.

The Afghan soldiers gave their own money to build this monument. Yuriy Gryaznov, Victor Timchenko, Ivan Liubenko, Mikhail Paskannyi, Yuriy Ageyev, Sergey Lebedunskyi took an active part in its erecting.

Their active position of life is an example for residents of our town.

Part II. Heroes of the Great Patriotic War

2.1. Ivan Parygin is the Hero of the Soviet Union

Year after year recedes into the past. Decades have gone by since the guns of the cruelest and most sanguinary war in history fell silent.

The memory of the heroic feat performed by the Soviet soldiers to save mankind from fascism lives on.

On the 9th of May all progressive people on our planet celebrate Victory Day. On this day fascism was defeated. The red flag appeared on the building of Reichstag in Berlin.

The Great Patriotic war was over. The Soviet soldiers showed great heroism. They fought for their Motherland courageously.

Among the heroes of the Great Patriotic war is our country man Ivan Alexandrovich Parygin. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He had lived in the village Mulino of Chita Region before the war. He was a fitter. When the war began he became a soldier.

In 1943 lieutenant Parygin was awarded the medal for his courage in the battle of Kursk/

He was badly wounded. It happened in1945. The Hero met Victory Day in hospital train near Saratov. And his war way was finished. After war he worked at state farm Provalskiy. Then he became the first head of Chervonopartizansk.

Parygin tried to treat every problem seriously. So he always had many friends. As a head of Chervonopartizansk Ivan Parygin spent ten years. During this period the town experienced many wonderful changes. He introduced many holidays dedicated to Chervonopartizansk.

For example, the Town Day. From 1963 to 1976 he worked at the mine in Chervonopartizansk.

Ivan Alexandrovych Parygin died in 1977. The history of Ivan Parygin life is not easy. It is an example of devotion to native country.

2.2 Unknown Heroes of Our Town

In mortal combat with Hitler’s fascism the Soviet people displayed unheard of heroism and lofty courage, upheld the independence of their Motherland. We speak much about famous deeds of marshal and officers, but there was nothing without ordinary soldiers. Every year brings discoveries – new facts of history, new name of heroes. There are people in our town who took part in the Great Patriotic war. They fought courageously. We are very proud of our countrymen. That’s why the pupils and teachers of our school done great searching work immortalize their names in history of our town.

Our museum contains the real facts from life and heroic deeds of Vasiliy Ivanovich Putria, Dmitriy Gavrilovich Stenko, Victor Andreyevich Demidov, Maria Pavlovna Marchenko, Konstantin Petrovich Lezhnev.

Too much information was collected on V. Putria, D. Stenko. This material required a new exhibit in the museum.

Vasiliy Putria took part in liberation of Romania, Poland and Germany. During the war he was awarded 8 orders and 22 medals, among them the order of the Red Star.

Dmitriy Stenko took part in the liberation of Temriuk, Alexandria, and Kirovograd. Then there was Hungary, Austria, Prague, and Bratislava.

Dmitriy Stenko has awards:

Medal «For Victory over Germany in the world war II»

Order of the Patriotic war, First Degree.

Medal «For our Soviet Motherland»

We can say a lot about exploits of our countrymen. Their names will never be forgotten.

2.3 The School Museum of Valour and Glory

The school museum is a pride of school, socially significant object of Chervonopartizansk. As mentioned above it consists of two rooms: the first room is called «Afghanistan is a pain in my soul», the second one is a hall of the Great Patriotic war.

The lesson of courage meetings, educational events are held there. (Application 5, 6). Almost all resident of our town, journalists and other guests visit this museum every year. The materials of the museum are presented in the book «School Museum» in Lugansk.

The school museum of Valour and Glory took the second place in the competition in Sverdlovsk.

It is a historical centre which contains 15 permanent exhibits.

2.4 Monument to Fallen Soldiers

Every year on the 9th of May almost all residents of our town come to the monument to fallen soldiers. (Application 7). The meetings dedicated to Victory Day are held on the Railway station «Krasnaya Mogila»

This monument was erected to honour of dead in the Civil war.

Grave of Soviet soldiers is located on the railway line Debaltsevo-Zverevo. 863 soldiers were buried there. It is a common grave of Soviet soldiers and Red Army soldiers.

A memorial plaque with the names of Soviet soldiers was created in 1967.

During our research work we have found a photo of the old monument, standing on the Red Tomb before the establishment of modern.

Conclusion

Two cruel wars…. Pain of loss. Much is said and not known about these wars, their beginning and end. It is difficult now to say, should say, to remember and repeat….

In the present work we brought certain facts of life and the heroic past of soldiers in Great Patriotic war and Afghan war.

Many interesting photos, awards and lots of information were found as a result of research work. We found two photos and a newspaper article about Ivan Alexandrovich Parygin. Today these materials are in school museum. We made interviews with War veterans and Afghan soldiers.

In my work I tried to attract the attention to the history of native land and people who live in our town. I wanted to show that around us there are people whose life is an example for modern generation. These people gave us the future. And the duty of the present generation is to cherish the memory and to pass it on to posterity.

I hope that together we shall keep the memory of our glorious countrymen. Their names will be in our hearts forever and we shall build and celebrate our glorious mining town Chervonopartizansk.
