The Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "Volgograd State Medical University" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (FSBEI HE "Volgograd State Medical University" of the Ministry of Health of Russia) was founded in 1935 as the Stalingrad Medical Institute.

Volgograd State Medical University ranks 14th among medical universities in Russia. In 2022, the university entered the International Ranking “Three University Missions”, where it took a position in the range of 1001–1100. The university is included in the WHO List of Medical Universities in the World. The university has 8 faculties, a medical college and a branch - the Pyatigorsk Medical and Pharmaceutical Institute.

Medical Faculty Specialty: 040100 - general medicine The Faculty of Medicine of the Volgograd State Medical University was opened in 1935 simultaneously with the formation of the Stalingrad State Medical Institute and has been training general practitioners for more than 67 years. During this period, the faculty trained about 15 thousand practical doctors, healthcare organizers, and medical scientists. The origins of the Faculty of Medicine are a galaxy of famous scientists and teachers. These are professors A.K. Martynov, S.N. Kasatkin, V.F. Shirokiy, T.I. Eroshevsky, G.S. Topver, E.R. Mogilevsky and many others.
