David Copperfield
Review: David Copperfield
David Copperfield is a novel written by Charles Dickens. It revolves around the life of the character David Copperfield. It was published in a book form in 1850.The setting of the novel is in England during the 19th century. The two main themes of the novel are class consciousness and criticism of social institutions.
The plot of the novel is fascinating. It is about the ups and downs of David’s life. David describes all the obstacles he has to overcome in order to acquire peace of mind and economic stability.
Every character is given his own distinctive feature. Some of them are timeless. David Copperfield is depicted as a diligent and optimistic character. Among the gloriously vivid cast of characters he encounters are his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his brilliant, but unworthy school-friend James Steerforth; his aunt Betsey Trotwood; and many others.
What impressed me most in this book is that hardships in life can be overcome by hard work and honest behaviour. There are times when the novel moves slowly, but the positives outweigh the negatives. In my opinion, “David Copperfield” is a book for everyone.
