Gifts are given in Russia. My family always makes olivier salad, fish under a coat, potatoes, chicken. In the UK the New Year is celebrated from the evening of December 31st into January 1st. In the UK celebrate New Year with friends. For the New Year the British prepare apple pie, fruit and different sweets. This is why people do not give each other present on this day. It is not customary to give gifts on this day.
Gifts are given in Russia, but not in the UK. Our tradition in the New Year is to decorate fir-tree, house and fireworks. New Year is one of the favorite holidays for many people.
