Весь мир театр, а люди в нем актеры
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players”. These words were said by the British poet William Shakespeare in the 16th century in his comedy “As You Like It”. What did he mean saying that?
In my opinion, he believes that life is a plot, with its beginning, middle, and end, and we all are the actors on our personal stage.
During our lives we play different roles. When we are young, we dress up in the costumes of our favorite fairy characters: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Superman and many others. We copy their behavior trying to be tender, smart, strong and brave as they are.
When we become older, we think of our future “acting” career as a lawyer, a doctor or a teacher. We can change our roles throughout the life as often as the actors in the theatre change their parts.
Besides, I think we can wear different masks in different situations as the actors do it in various scenes. For example, we can be very strict and demanding at work but we turn into loving and caring people at home.
Sometimes we try to hide our feelings behind the mask. We often laugh when we want to cry or we become rude when we want to defend ourselves.
There are situations when we are eager to draw the attention of the people around us. We show off trying to impress people and look at their reaction as if we were waiting for their applause.
In fact, each of us has a purpose and has a role to play according to the situation. Sometimes we are positive character, sometimes wicked ones. But if we put all the episodes together, we’ll become a fascinating story called Life.
This life a theatre we well may call,
Where every actor must perform with art,
Or laught it through, and make a farce of all,
Or learn to bear with grace his tragic part.
