Confucius ( 551–479 BCE)

He was a Chinese philosopher, poet and politician of the Spring and Autumn period who is traditionally considered the paragon of Chinese sages. His philosophical teachings, called Confucianism, emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice, kindness, and sincerity. He championed strong family loyalty, ancestor veneration, and respect of elders by their children and of husbands by their wives, recommending family as a basis for ideal government. He espoused the well-known principle "Do not do unto others what you do not want done to yourself", the Golden Rule.


Napoleon Bonaparte
(15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821)

He was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars. During his reign, Napoleon won more battles than Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar.


Sir Walter Scott
(15 August 1771 –
21 September 1832)

He was a Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian. Many of his works remain classics of European and Scottish literature. He had a major impact on European and American literature. The famous author loved pets and also enjoyed doing household chores. Scott himself, without assistance, ennobled his estate, Abbotsford, planting many flowers and trees.



Charles Robert Darwin
(12 February 1809
– 19 April 1882)

He was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist. His proposition that all species of life have descended from common ancestors is now widely accepted and considered a fundamental concept in science. In a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace, he introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding. Darwin has been described as one of the most influential figures in human history,and he was honoured by burial in Westminster Abbey.

Nicolaus Copernicus
(19 February 1473 –
24 May 1543)

He was a Polish mathematician and astronomer who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than Earth at its center; that Earth is a planet which, besides orbiting the Sun annually, also turns once daily on its own axis. This representation of the heavens is usually called the heliocentric, or “Sun-centred,” system—derived from the Greek helios, meaning “Sun.”. However, the book that contains the final version of his theory, De revolutionibus orbium coelestium libri vi (“Six Books Concerning the Revolutions of the Heavenly Orbs”), did not appear in print until 1543, the year of his death.



Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn
(15 July 1606– 4 October 1669)

Rembrandt was a Dutch Golden Age painter. Unlike most Dutch masters of the 17th century, Rembrandt's works depict a wide range of styles from portraits and self-portraits to landscapes historical scenes, and biblical and mythological themes as well as animal studies.
