Ход урока

Good morning, children! Nice to see you. How are you? Could you answer some of my questions about your family?

What would you say your family is like?

Would you describe your mother, what are her main characteristics?

And what about your father?

Have you got any brothers or sisters?

Do you get on well with them?

What are your mother’s/ father’s hobbies?

Do you love your parents?

Thank you for your answers. Let’s repeat the rhyme about family.

My Family

My mum’s as busy as a bee

Because she looks after my family and me.

My dad is as strong as an ox

Because he’s got big muscles and he can box.

My sis is as quiet as a mouse

Because you can hardly tell when she’s in the house

My brother is as slow as a snail

But he’s clever and can never fail

I’m as stubborn as a mule

cause I’m headstrong but really cool!

That’s OK! Tell me, where do we live? Right you are! We live in Arkhangelsk region. Look at the map. What is the name of the biggest river? Are there any other rivers? And what is the name of the sea?

Today we turn to history and talk about people who lived there. As they lived near the sea the territory was named Pomorye. That means the Land of Pomors. Do you know who Pomors were? Do you know any famous Pomors?

Look at the picture. (Слайд 2) What do you see? Yes, this is a Pomor family. Describe it. Name the members of the family.

Pomors usually had very big families. Some of them were up to 20 people. Sons, their wives and children lived together with parents. Why do you think they lived in this way? (Слайд 3)

The life was difficult, they worked hard. Every member of the family had responsibilities. Children helped parents. Father and elder brothers went fishing in the sea.

Mother and daughters kept house. Girls knitted and sewed, took care about younger sisters and brothers. Pomors were intelliging people. They can read and draw maps. Parents began to teach children reading at the age of 5.

People honored each other. Women had equal rights. Men could cook, knit, sew and women sometimes went fishing by ship.

What can you tell about people and families?

(Дети в группах 3 – 4 человека записывают слова на карточку, затем зачитывают.)

(Слайд 4)

We have said Pomor families had traditions. One of them is the Pomor cuisine. As a rule, Pomors had 3 or 4 meals a day. They got up at 4 – 6 a.m. and had breakfast. Dinner was at about 9 – 10 a.m. at 1 – 3 p.m. they had a midday meal. They had supper at 6 – 8 p.m. in winter and at 9 – 10 p.m. in summer.

There was a big table in a Pomors’ house. (Слайд 5) Every member of the family had his place around the table. The family began and finished eating when the head (usually father or grandfather) gave a signal. Children must not talk at the table.

In the middle of the house there was a Russian stove. (Слайд 6)

It warmed the house. The family washed there. Mother baked, boiled, fried, and dried there. What do you think Pomors ate?

The main food was fish, also mushrooms, berries, vegetables, rye bread, milk, eggs. What would you cook?

(Дети в группах 3 – 4 человека составляют список блюд, зачитывают.)

What new things have you learned? Thank you for your work. Your homework is to write a letter to your pen friend and tell about Pomor cuisine and give a recipe.
