Library of Alexandria (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) The most famous library of antiquity was founded at the Alexandrian museion (temple or sanctuary) - one of the main scientific and cultural centers of the ancient world. In Egypt, libraries were created in temples, and priests took care of them. The books were in the form of rolls made from papyrus. The Library of Alexandria in Egypt was one of the largest in the ancient world, containing about 750,000 scrolls. Now it is the main library of Egypt, a cultural center located on the Mediterranean coast in the city of Alexandria. The library is both a memorial to the Library of Alexandria, lost in antiquity, and a modern center of science and education.
Garrison Library in Gibraltar The library was officially opened in 1803 by the Duke of Kent . Today it is a modern library with over 35,000 books, including many rare items.
