You look at the picture and feel that thunder is about to rumble, lightning will flash, and the clouds will pour torrential rain. The clouds are rapidly approaching. Another moment and they will displace the last rays of the sun. The distant forest has already turned black. He froze in anticipation of the approaching storm. Only here and there does a ray of sunlight manage to find a small window to take a last look at the earth. The water in the river is motionless, as are the trees along its banks. A well-trodden path leads to the river. But there is not a soul around. The birds hid in their nests. I feel the silence that has reigned in nature, waiting for the first cool drops. But this silence is not peaceful, when everything around freezes, as if enchanted. It is a guarded silence. Everyone around is anxiously awaiting the bad weather that is already nearby. I look at the clouds and see how they are slowly but surely creeping closer and closer. The sky turns even blacker. It becomes twilight in nature, as if the night is covering the surroundings with its dark blanket. However, this blackness does not reek of darkness, because summer thunderstorms are stormy. But they pass quickly. The clouds will run further. And over this forest, over the river, over the path, the sun will shine again. The birds will begin their sonorous singing.

The painting «Before the Storm» amazes with its beauty, because such subtle skill of the artist always causes delight. It would seem that well-known places are drawn on it. There is nothing unusual. But how beautiful our native land is, what amazing modesty combined with grace. The surface of the river is like a mirror into which you can look at the coastal thickets. What could be more beautiful than this? Thanks to Shishkin, we will be able to appreciate the pristine beauty of nature that surrounds us. We will see the most amazing moments that will make us look differently at our native spaces.
