NEW YORK situated in New York State the biggest city in the United States a huge financial and arts centre called the Big Apple There are two world-famous streets in NY – Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Broadway is the centre of the theatres and night life. Fifth Avenue is the great shopping, hotel and club avenue.

Manhattan, this twelve-and-a-half-mile (20km) finger of land lying between the Hudson and East rivers, is one of the five boroughs that make up the city.

Las Vegas State: Nevada Las Vegas is unique because it has been almost exclusively designed for tourists. The population of the city is over one million. It is famous as a place where people go gambling, it is full of the most amazing hotels and casinos in the world.

Las Vegas is the only place in the world where you can see Paris, New York and a whole range of other cities at the same time. Why? Because they are the names of some of the hotels. It is very popular to marry in Vegas. Elvis Presley married here in 1967.

Miami State: Florida Miami is the biggest city in the Sunshine State - Florida, a state that is famous for Disneyworld and other tourist attractions. It is associated with young Cubans and other Latinos, who have turned the city into a clubbers’ paradise. The population is over 60 . Of interest are Miami, a major international vacation centre with about 7 million visitors every year; Miami Beach with all kinds of its entertainment.

Grand Canyon National Park – World Heritage Site views from the rim of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River The Grand Canyon is one of the greatest wonders of nature and belongs to the most stunning examples of erosion in the world. The magnificence and variety of colored, bizarre rock formations is simply overwhelming and incredible.  Since about 6 to 10 million years the Colorado river together with other erosive forces has been carving this spectacular gorge, which is up to 60 feet (1800 m) deep, up to 18 miles (29 km) across and about 220 miles (350 km) long.  

Rainbow Bridge - the world's largest natural bridge National Monument By its wondrous size, to say nothing of its majesty and mystery, Rainbow Bridge has inspired humans throughout time. For native Americans in this region it is a religious, sacred site.  Thousands of people from all over the world have visited this monument each year. From the base up to the top of its arch it is 290 feet and spans 275 feet across the river. The top of the arch is 42 feet thick and 33 feet wide. Rainbow Bridge is located at Lake Powell. From Page it is a 5 hours ride by boat to get there and back, including the visit. The ride leads across most interesting rock formations and truly is a fascinating trip. 

Bryce Canyon - National Park (Utah) there is a grand view of the Canyon from the rim Bryce Canyon National Park is a red, pink and golden rock ‘fairy-land’ of pinnacles and spires. It was known to the Paiute Indians as ‘red rocks standing like men in bowl-shaped canyon’. The Bryce Canyon is another spectacular example of erosion of breathtaking beauty.

The rock formations of the Bryce Canyon began to develop about 144 million ago. The original inhabitants in South Utah, the Paiutes, looked upon the colorful "Hoodoos" as "Legend People" who were turned to stone by Coyote. Erosive forces as well as ancient rivers and basins have formed a remarkable arrangement of fantastic shapes and changed colorful Claron limestone, sandstone and mudstone into a maze of thousands of strange figures, like spires, fins and some of them looking like people – the well-known “Hoodoos”.

What is Uncle Sam? Uncle Sam is the nickname for the American Government. It rose during the War 1812, when Samuel Wilson was an inspector of provisions for the Army. The abbreviation of “US” on the casks, was unknown to people and one of the workmen spread the facetious saying that it meant “Uncle Sam” Wilson.
