History of creation National Unity Day was established in Russia almost 20 years ago. The holiday recalls the events that took place at the beginning of the 17th century. The country was going through the Time of Troubles. Moscow was occupied by the Poles, and several contenders sought to occupy the Russian throne.
On November 1, 1612, the people's militia led by Minin and Pozharsky liberated Moscow from the Polish invaders. Prince Pozharsky entered Kitai-Gorod with the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. Therefore, later in 1649, King Alexei Mikhailovich ordered to celebrate the day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God on November 4 according to the Gregorian calendar. The importance of this holiday The holiday is intended to remind people of unity and cohesion in difficult times. It serves as a reminder that only together people can overcome any challenge. On this day, attention is focused on the richness of Russian culture, the traditions of the different peoples inhabiting our huge country. Every year, National Unity Day becomes more and more important for Russians. Of course, National Unity Day cannot compete with New Year and Victory Day. But, as the survey showed, almost half of those surveyed name November 4th among the dates they celebrate.
Events and entertainment On National Unity Day, events and promotions are held throughout Russia to remind citizens of the history of the holiday. Also on this day, vibrant festivals and concerts with the participation of Russian pop stars are organized in major cities of the Russian Federation.
Non-working day National Unity Day is one of the main holidays for Russians. Russia's power and prosperity are rooted in its spiritual and state unity. Therefore, this day is officially recognized as a non-working day.
