Ex. 3. Read the following rhymes. Mark the intonation. Guess the meaning of each statement and explain it with your own words. Choose one statement and write 5-8 sentences.

Lexicology

Ex. 1. Choose any letter from the English alphabet. During 3 min. write as many words on ecology (nature, climate) as you can. Using these words write sentences in your notebooks. Read them in the class. Let your classmates choose the best sentence. You can make this exercise several times.

“S” SOCIAL, SKY, SAFE PLACE, SAFE CONDUCT, SALT WATER, SAND, SAVE, SAFE AREA, SAVE FOR…

E.g. If we have only salt water on the Earth , all people will die.

We should save animals for future generations.

Ex. 4. Acrostics – is when the first or last letter of words and phrases makes up a new word or phrase. Look at the samples given in the left column. Make at home acrostics on ecology with the words from the right column.

Grammar Exercises Present Simple – Present continuous

Ex. 2. Put the following sentences into Present Continuous. Translate them. Ask questions to these sentences. Make these sentences negative. Find the verbs in Present Simple and Present Continuous.

a) Global warming comes to destroy our planet.

b) Ice melts in Arctic and this kills Polar bears.

c) Our Earth gets a lot of solar energy from the Sun.

d) Global warming depends on the energy consumption.

e) Climate changes lead to deserts expansion.

Adjectives – Adverbs – Comparisons

Ex. 2. Read the text from the Internet. Find comparisons, numerals and numbers. Underline them. Make your own sentences with these words.

Looking back through the ages, our Earth has passed through many hot and cold periods. One of the warmest intervals was Cretaceous (меловой) period. It was more than 30 million years ago. The temperature was about 10 °C warmer than today. Water was not locked up in ice sheets near the pole. That’s why the sea level rose. The oceans spilled on to the continents. Australia was a lot smaller then! We believe that these warm conditions resulted from extra carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide was ejected into the atmosphere because of widespread volcanic activity.
