On December 10th 1948 the United Nations wrote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It has 30 articles* and protects the right to speak freely, to marry whomever he/she wants, to choose the work he/she likes and to get an education.
The list of human rights includes protection against cruel punishment and protection against racial, ethnic, sexual, and religious discrimination. These rights are important for all people and all nations of the world. The UDHR was translated into 500 languages.
But human rights are sometimes violated. People still practise racism and discriminate against others. In some countries children work in unsafe conditions and have no opportunity to go to school.

Children are victims of war, hunger and they suffer for no reason. Also, they can’t make decisions about their lives. One of the issues today is child labour, or the employment of children in factories, mines, etc. Children may be forced to work in some countries in Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Poverty and no schools make it difficult to solve this problem.
The United Nations adopted the Convention of thе Rights of the Child in 1989. It has 54 articles and one of the topics is children’s development and safety. Children should be protected from any kind of discrimination: racial, religious, social, language, etc. Authorities* should protect children and motivate them to reach their full potential. These rights apply for all children no matter where they live.
