Salvador Dali. "The Persistence of Memory"

"The Persistence of Memory" is one of the most famous paintings by the artist Salvador Dali, which has currently been in the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1934. In the picture we see a melting clock against the background of a mountainous, desert landscape.

In the foreground we see a melting clock on a table, a tree that grows out of it, and something like a sofa where we see the same melting ones. The artist uses muted colors, in particular sandy yellow, dirty green, blue and other shades mixed with gray, which, in my opinion, reflects human memory, which is also muted, subject to erosion in people's heads.

In the background we see a deserted, pointed mountain, as well as a body of water, but it is not clear whether it is a sea or a lake, which may also refer to the perception of what a particular human individual saw. Sunlight falls on the mountain and part of the reservoir, which can tell us about the dawn, but it also remains unclear whether the dawn occurs in general or in the head of a particular person.

According to the clock that has preserved its integrity, ants are crawling in the lower left corner, which for Dali is the personification of death, the decomposition of the human body, the pond in the back, on the contrary, refers us to life based on Salvador's idea, then the picture acquires a more philosophical meaning regarding human existence, the life and death of the human being himself.

Salvador's paintings are truly unusual for human perception, they may seem delusional, absurd and strange, but everyone can find their own meaning in them, because Dali does not put into them any definite and ordinary, understandable at first glance, as when looking at many other paintings by famous authors. His paintings are deep and complex, but at the same time they are laid-back, so that their "habitual understanding" eludes the logical, standard human perception.

The picture appeals to the viewer to look inside himself, but also to look into the world, into something deeper and less ordinary than what most people see, which is why his picture causes a lot of emotions that are difficult to convey in our usual language, it goes on a deeper level, where words seem too narrow and constraining to describe something more extensive, beyond the usual limits of human perception, one wants to look at such paintings not so much because of beauty or good artistic techniques as because of the fact that, that every time such works force you to look inside yourself, inside your human being and discover something new in yourself, which was not new as such, but was only constrained, hidden under the ordinariness of living life. under the mundane perception that most people need for a "comfortable" life, but a more thoughtful look at the picture - at themselves allows a person, at least for a while, to get out of the vicious circle of dragging the mundane, worldly and see in themselves something more than just a person as such, more than just an essence, but at the same time less than the creature.
