Topic: Celebrating your birthday

Aim: By the end of the lesson students will be able to speak on the topic “Birthday”, read correctly and understand short texts with the use of lexical units on the topic.

Materials: a computer, speakers, interactive board, cards with words, student’s books.

2.Listen, find the words and drag them in the table.


Ss say different words they already know.

Repeat the new words after the speaker. Then the Ss go to the interactive-board and drag the words to the pictures.

-Jim will have a birthday. Miss Chatter and her pupils are going to give some presents to him. I want you to look at the pictures of exercise 1 on page 71 now. You can see it on our interactive-board.

-So, let’s go to Jim’s party! We give him presents. What presents can we give to Jim?

It’s time to read the story about Rex.

The teacher asks to read the story and name Rex’s presents.

-Wind up, you time is over. So, name the presents, please.

-Now, let’s read the text one by one.

Ss open their textbooks, find page 72 ex. 5. The Ss have 4-5 min to read and find proper information.

The Ss answer:

-Rex has got…for his birthday.

The Ss read the text.

The teacher asks the other children to read attentively, all necessary words they can find in their vocabularies.

Monologue building development

We have read the story about Rex. Rex is Jim and Jill’s pet.

Have you got a pet?


-Thanks a lot! Now I suggest making up your own stories about your pets. If you have no pet you can imagine it)

-Look at the board one again. You may use the comments as an example.

The teacher gives 2-3 min to think it over. Then asks 2-3 Ss to tell their stories.

-Who would like to tell us about your pet?

The Ss answer:

-Yes/No…


Some Ss tell their stories. The others listen attentively.
