Karpogory.
Karpogory was founded in 1623. The village lies in the eastern part of the Arkhangelsk Region. Karpogory is the administrative and cultural center of the Pinezhski District.
It is situated on the high bank of the Pinega river. The village is not small, about five thousand people live there.
The houses in the village are not large, but some of them are modern, they have two floors. The streets are green with trees and flowers. In the village there is a House of amateur and folk art.
House of amateur and folk art is one of the first in the Arkhangelsk region. Here everyone can master the skills of weaving, belts weaving, patchwork, woodcarving and painting on wood. The works of the masters are represented in many museums of Russia and abroad.
There are three monuments in Karpogory. The Lenin Monument is in the park in the centre of the village. The monument to the heroes of the Civil war is near the school. The Victory Monument is at the end of Oktyabrskay Street.
In the centre of the village there is a post office. It is a grey modern building. Not far from the post-office there is big library in the Karpogory. It is named after F. A. Abramov.
The well-known Russian writer Fyodor Alexandrovich Abramov was born in Verkola, a small village in Pinezhski District. He is famous for his novels «Two Winters and Three Summers», «Road and Crossroads», «The House». Many of his books were translated into foreign language.
The house of the merchant Shepotkina is used to be an example of inequality in the carp Mountain. The house belonged to a merchant Grigory Stepanovich Shepotkin and his wife Natalia. The decision of the house traditional for the village inside, each floor has a large hallway with doors to the spacious room. The house has several entrances. Here previously housed the living quarters, and utility rooms were in the neighboring buildings, the so-called human buildings located in the background. In the thirties, this building housed the seven-year Karpogory school peasant youth.
There are 3 schools in Karpogory: secondary school, musical school and evening school. The secondary school is at the end of the village and the hospital is at the other.
School was founded in 1865. F. Abramov, famous writer, finished the school in Karpogory in 1938. A small museum acquaints people with the history of Pinezhski district.
One of the main street is also named after F.A.Abramov. It is Abramov street now.
Lenin Street – street of the "wooden horses." The crest of the roof of the houses is crowned by okhlupen in the form of he horse which gives the house a special majesty and upward aspiration.
PODVOR'e Svyato-Artemieva Verkol'skogo monastery in the village of Karpogory was opened in 2000. In 2007 the Bishop of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogory Tikhon was consecrated a newly built wooden Church of the Holy apostles Peter and Paul, which is now used for Church services.
