«We Should Protect Yamalian Indigenous Languages»

The native languages of the indigenous peoples of the North in Yamalo - Nenetski autonomous region are Nentsy, Khanty, Mansy, Selkupy. Nenets, Khanty and Selkup. I fully agree that they should be preserved.

The development of gas fields and the increase of gas in Yamalo - Nenetski autonomous region has led to the fact that the territories were previously ancestral to the local population have become crafts. The life of the local population has changed. Where they used to graze their herds of deer, get furs and fish, first appeared working villages and then cities. The number of visitors began to prevail. Russian has become the language of international communication. There is nothing wrong with this, people who live on the same territory should interact. But it is also impossible that the native languages of the Yamal peoples should be superseded. With the help of language, the customs, traditions and the lifetime of the Northern peoples are passed from generation to generation, and the world is known. It seems to me that only in the languages of the Nenets and Khanty can you tell about the greatness, beauty and severity of the Northern nature! A lot is being done in our district to preserve the languages of small peoples. The law "About native languages of small peoples of the North on the territory of the Yamalo-Nenetski autonomous region" was adopted. The preservation process goes in several directions. Ethnocultural education provides for the development of bilingualism among indigenous children, increasing the number of textbooks in their native language. The preservation of folk art through the creation of centers of national cultures. Organization of national holidays, contests with rites and traditions of Northern ethnic groups. Books are printed in the Khanty, Nenets and Selkup languages are available in the collections of the Yamal National library in Salekhard. Also, national mass media, Newspapers and Internet sites in the languages of indigenous northerners are being developed.

In conclusion I’d like to say, in order not to lose the connection, languages need to be studied, protected and preserved.
