Essay “I am a Freshman”

The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet

To begin with, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth. I am a 17-year-old freshman and I still cannot fully realize it. Yesterday I was a schoolgirl and today I am a student.

I have been studying in Chelyabinsk State College of Food Industry and Trade since 2024, and I am going to be a highly qualified specialist in cooking. I took my parents’ way. It is incredible feeling when you see your surname in the list of future students especially in the place where you really wanted to study.

From the very first months of studying, we have a lot of cooking practice. As for my interests, they coincide with my future profession. I have always loved cooking dinners by different recipes but, to be honest, it was not always delicious. According to Neil Gaiman’s book “Coraline”: “Coraline's father stopped working and made them all dinner. Coraline was disgusted. "Daddy," she said, "You've made a recipe again." "It's leek and potato stew, with a tarragon garnish and melted Gruyere cheese," he admitted. Coraline sighed. Then she went to the freezer and got out some microwave chips and a microwave mini-pizza. "You know I don't like recipes," she told her father”. Now I have opportunity to please my family and friends by cooking something special for them.

People say that I am very hard working, reliable, ambitious, energetic and creative. I hope that all these characteristics can help me to become a good chef in the future. There are some reasons.

Firstly, my parents help me to learn how to communicate and collaborate with people. Secondly, they give me opportunities to have good living and studying conditions. That is why, it is hard for me to disappoint my family.

In conclusion, I agree with one English proverb: “No effort, no gain”. I really like my future profession and I am sure that when I graduate from the college, I might get chances to start a stable and fantastic career in the best restaurant of our city. The main reward for me will be the job satisfaction. I will get a real sense of achievement when customers say “thank you”. I know I will do a worthwhile job and people will recognize it.
