Should ever be forgot.

Hello, dear boys and girls! Look at the pictures on the blackboard. What are we going to discuss now? You are right! Today we are talking about Guy Fawkes Night. Let’s read a poem devoted to this holiday in England. It’s easy and catching.

Reading the poem (5 minutes).

Guy Fawkes Fireworks Night Poem”

Remember, remember the fifth of November,

Gunpowder treason and plot,

I see no reason why gunpowder treason

Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes

Twas his intent

To blow up the King and the Parliament.

Three score barrels of powder below

Poor old England to overthrow.

By God’s providence he was catched

With a dark lantern and a burning match.

Holla Boys Holla Boys

Let the bells ring

Holla Boys Holla Boys

God save the King

Reading the text (15 minutes). And now let’s read and analyze the text.

Guy Fawkes Night

Guy Fawkes Night is also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and fireworks Night. It takes place on the 5th of November every year. It is celebrated mainly in the United Kingdom. In 1605 Guy Fawkes was arrested. He was a member of the Gunpowder Plot. He was guarding explosives, which had to take place beneath the House of Lords. The plotters failed their plan. It is known as Gunpowder Treason Day. They wanted to replace King James I. King James I survived. Guy Fawkes was arrested. People were very glad and lit bonfires around London. Months later the holiday for the plot’s failure on the 5th of November was introduced.

Remember, ___________ the fifth of November,

Gunpowder treason and plot,

I see no reason why gunpowder treason

Should ever be ________.

Guy Fawkes grew up in the city of York,

A catholic born and raised.

He had all sorts of names for England’s King _________ –

A man of the Protestant faith.

Guy met Robert Catesby who hated to ______

A protestant rule from the throne.

They hatched a plan (he’d go out with the bang),

Then they’d find a king of their ______.

Catesby and Fawkes, and their other cohorts

Plotted to axe those in power.

Under the floors of the House of __________,

They hid barrels full of gunpowder.

They should have known better;

Someone sent a letter

That warned of what they had __________.

Fawkes was soon caught, the plot came to nought,

And Guy was soon known across the land.

Fawkes paid the price for the violence and vice,

And King James continued his reign.

He pledged to remember the Fifth of ___________,

And see it wouldn’t happen again.

So, this Bonfire Night as the fireworks take flight,

Think how differently things would have __________.

If Guy hadn’t been found with the barrels underground

Who knows what that blast might have done.

You are to create a mask – anonymous mask (a smiling face with red cheeks, a wide moustache upturned at both ends, and a thin vertical pointed beard).

You see, nowadays this mask isn’t a forbidden thing to create. It is a carnival mask. It can be used on Halloween and so on.
