Разминка
Учитель (ведущий): You’ll get acquainted with interesting people: doctors, dieticians, a sportsman. You’ll watch a video film and sing songs.
There are a lot of proverbs about health. Try to remember. (2 )
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Laughter is the best medicine.
Good health is above wealth.
Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
If we are healthy, we are wealthy.
Some people care about their health, others don’t: they have bad health habits. In fact, there are modern health sins which are far more deadly. Can you help them and name them?
Game “Snowball”. The first man name the word, the second repeat it and name its own. The first ‘Snowball’ is called ‘Bad habits’. (Obesity, physical inactivity, smoking, drinking alcohol, sleeping too much or too little, snacking, skipping breakfast, drugs)
The second one is called ‘Good habits’. (Healthy dieting, healthy food, physical activity, sleeping 7 or 8 hours, regularity in life).

These are the results of interviewing.
The average student of the 9th form doesn’t enjoy smoking. Only 8 students don’t mind other people smoking near them. 10 students approve of smoking as a habit. It’s surprising that only 8 persons think that smoking should be forbidden in public places. Nobody approve of people taking drugs. Unfortunately 40% of teens don’t mind getting drunk in their company. Only 13 pupils would like to go in for sports. Most of these teens don’t do morning exercises every day. But 20 students make resolutions to do it. 7 pupils keep a diet. 16 classmates remember the rules of keeping fit and follow them.
Учитель (ведущий): -Thank you. Are you satisfied with the results of interviewing?
-No, I can’t say so. I wish the teens cared more about their health and didn’t have bad habits at all.
4. “Discussing Nutrition Problems”
Look at these pictures and listen to this limerick.
A glutton who came from the Rhine
When asked at what hour he would dine,
Replied, ‘At eleven,
At three, five and seven,
At eight and a quarter past nine.’
There is a popular proverb that goes, ‘Eat to live not live to eat’. People need food to stay alive. But sometimes we can overdo it and end up ‘living to eat’.
Listen to the dialogue between two girls. Louise is American. Her friend Ann is interested in nutrition problems.
Dialogue
Ann: I’ve been living in this country for more than seven years, but i don’t yet understand why there is so much talk about nutrition as a growing science.
Louise: Americans want to be healthy. But most of us have no understanding of nutrition problems.
A: Whenever I see my family doctor, he advises me to stick to a low cholesterol diet.
L: And do you follow his advice?
A: It’s hard to stick to a diet with my busy schedule.
L: For your health it’s very important to get a balanced diet.
A: What is balanced diet?
L: Adults can get a balanced diet by including foods from the main groups. These are the milk group (milk, cheese, yogurt and other dairy foods); the meat group (meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and meat alternatives such as beans, lentils and nuts); the bread group (bread, cereals, noodles) and the vegetable and fruit group.
A: Can people who don’t eat meat or fish stay healthy?
L: Absolutely; by eating enough dairy food and meat alternatives people can get essential proteins.
A: What about the nutritional value of canned vegetables that we buy at the supermarket?
L: The nutritional difference depends more on how vegetables are prepared than on whether they are bought fresh or canned.
A: I am amazed how knowledgeable you are. You could become a professional dietician.
L: It’s just my hobby to read about food and health.
A: I was told to avoid such food as bread and potatoes, what’s your view?
L: By avoiding bread and potatoes, you cut out several B vitamins, vitamins C and other nutrients.
A: Are extra vitamin dosages useful?
L: You shouldn’t take more vitamins than the body needs.
A: Thank you for your valuable information.

5. Сообщение доктора-диетолога
In order to stay healthy it is important to have a balanced diet – in other words, food that contains something from each of the three main groups of food. These groups are protein, fat and carbohydrates.
You find protein in lots of food, for example meat, fish, nuts, cheese and milk. It helps your body grow and be healthy and it gives you energy.
Feat gives you energy but don’t eat a lot – it’s bad for you. There are lots of fatty foods that come from animals, for example milk, cheese, butter and meat.
Carbohydrates give you more than 70% of your energy. Bread, pasta, cereals, fruits and vegetables such as potatoes and cabbage all contains lots carbohydrates.
Fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts< brown bread all have fibre. It doesn’t give you energy but it fills your stomach when you are hungry.
There are many different vitamins and minerals. They help your body be healthy. You can get all your vitamins and minerals from fresh fruit and vegetables.
Don’t forget:
Too little food makes you thin.
Too much food makes you fat.
The wrong food makes you ill.
The right food keeps you well.
Too many sweets are bad for you, especially for your teeth.
So, observe balance in everything, because balance is the key to everything.
Relax (Song by Beatles) But sometimes when we feel awful we have to go to the doctor and follow his advice. Listen to the song and follow our singers’ instructions. Repeat after them.
6. Dialogue with a model
Our model follows all instructions her dietician gives her. She is ready to answer your questions.
I bet your producer likes only slim actors and actresses.
He does indeed. I have to be on a diet.
Are you on a sliming diet?
Yes, I am.
What does your diet allow you?
Well, a little boiled meat or fish, a few hard-boiled meat or fish, a few hard-boiled eggs, some cheese or milk, a lot of vegetables, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, very few potatoes, a lot of fruit.
What about sweets?
Oh, no! No cakes, no ice-cream, no chocolate and very little salt. They are fattening.
How many meals a day do you have?
I have four meals a day: a light breakfast, lunch, dinner – the heaviest meal, and supper,
What do you think of spicy food?
I avoid it. I prefer everything natural. In fact, i don’t live to eat, but i eat to live.
A cigarette?
No, thanks.
Isn’t it boring sometimes to follow these strict rules?
They are not strict. If you are in perfectly good health, you can work well and get more pleasure. Why not form good habits?
I agree with you. Health is the greatest wealth.

7. A dialogue with the leader of the rock band “Wolves”.
- As for me, I personally think, it’s a waste of time to talk about such things as dieting, bad habits, and so on. I don’t care how I look. I’m what I am. I have no problems with my health though I’m a smoker and a bit overweight.
- I think none of us is a vegetarian. Good roast beef is much tastier than watery vegetables.
- I must confess I like good food, the occasional beer, cheerful people, and lively music.
- Is it your keep-fit programme?
- Yes, it is. My motto is: ‘Eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is.’
- You are not a fitness fanatic, are you?
- No, I’m not. And I don’t want to change.
When a man loses his health, then he first begins to take good care of it. (Josh Bullings)

One Cigar a Day
Would you like to come in?
Yes, thank you.
Sit down, please.
Thanks.
What’s your name?
Jack martin.
So… here you are! What can I do for you?
I’ve got a very bad headache, and after work I’m very tired.
At first glance, it’s not serious.
But, doctor, sometimes I cough.
That cough sounds really very bad. I think I should listen to your lungs. Take off your shirt. Breath in deeply, that’s right… and again, please, and once more, please. Sit down. Well, do you ever take any exercises?
I don’t, actually.
I want to take your pulse. Stand up, please, and touch your toes.
I see. Medicine won’t help you at all. What you need is a complete change of living.
Get away to some quiet country place for a month. Go to bed early, eat more meat, drink good milk and smoke one cigar a day.
You’ll recover if you follow my advice.
Thank you for the consultation, doctor! Good Bye!
Good bye!
A month later the patient came to the doctor again. He looked like a new man and the doctor told him so.
You look wonderful! Did my advice help you?
Yes, doctor. Your advice helped me greatly. I want to bed early and did all the other things you told me. But, I say, doctor, that one cigar a day almost killed me at first. It’s no joke staring to smoke at my age.
Teacher: What is the main idea of this story?
S1 – You should keep fit. You should be physically active. You mustn’t smoke.
T: What are the causes of smoking?
S2 It causes a cough, a head ache, pneumonia, cancer.
S3: It makes your teeth yellow, skin unhealthy, hair and clothes smell.
It affects your memory, knowledge.
Dr Amy is in our studio.
I want you to remember these rules. They help you to stay healthy and be optimist.
Good rules to remember:
Get up early and go to bed early to keep fit.
Take regular exercises to keep fit.
Take a cool or cold shower to keep fit.
Eat healthy food.
Never smoke.
Clean you teeth every morning and every evening.
Wash your hands before you eat.
What are the ways to prevent tiredness?
Rest before you get tied (not after)
Learn to relax. If you’re having a tough time find a quiet half-hour all to yourself to gain strength and balance.
Don’t forget about four good working habits:
clear your desk of all papers except those you need closely at hand.
do things in order of their importance
When you face a problem, first analyse the facts to make a decision
Learn to organize things
Put enthusiasm into your work, it is the only way to enjoy what you are doing.
Remember, no one was ever killed by doing well-organized work (“The busiest man find the most leisure”)
Don’t be a mental loafer. Don’t be afraid to concentrate on some ideas, to think hard and to exercise your will and memory.
Don’t forget about good manners, avoid getting hot-tempered.
Take time to get the facts before you act.
Live and learn, analyse your mistakes.
Think and act cheerfully and you feel cheerful; keep smiling.
Teacher: In order to be healthy it’s important not only to have a healthy diet but as well to keep fit.
A dialogue with a sportsman
Well, you’d better go in for one kind of sport or another. I should admit that everyone must do all he to be healthy. Good health is better than the best medicine. “You have a sound mind in a sound body” as the old Latin saying goes. The English proverb “Sickness in the body brings sickness to the mind” express a similar idea but from different point of view. All kinds of physical exercises are very useful to make our bodies strong and to keep ourselves fit and healthy. It is necessary to go in for sports regularly, and then it does our health good, gives us joy, pleasure and satisfaction.
I’m not a great sportsman yet. But sport is an important part of my life too. I like to take part in sports competitions. I play in our school football team. I think that it helps me in different ways. First of all, sport builds character. It teaches to win and to lose. It makes you strong, fast and patient.
I fully support this. And I’d like to tell a poem about health and sport.
Good health is above wealth.
I go out cycling every day,
I get strong and fit that way,
And I play football at weekends
With my friends.
We like to run and swim and walk,
Let’s move around, no time to talk.
So we enjoy sport anyway,
We love to do sport every day.
The fun never ends
When you play with your friends.
Conclusion
Teacher: we talked a lot about keeping fit and healthy way of life. We shared our ideas of beauty: physical and spiritual. Show your posters and collages which express your attitude towards lifestyle. (презентация плакатов, коллажей)
And now I’d like you to fire the Olympic torch if you think that you support the idea of ancient Greece. You suppose that a sound mind is in a sound body. You are for fitness and for a healthy way of life.
If you are not interested in a healthy way of life and the idea of fitness doesn’t appeal to you, if you are against it and not going to support it, don’t fire the torch.
If you’re happy the way you are with fitness or without it, please sit on your comfortable chair. As I see it everyone wants to be fit and healthy. I suggest singing our song to invite other people to join our club.
Song
If you don’t feel your best
Better set your mind at rest,
Join my club, forget the pills.
Be nice and healthy.
If the weather is OK,
You can go jog all day.
You are welcome to the club,
And you’ll be healthy.
