Topic-Music

Aims :

- To develop fluency through a range of speaking activities

- To introduce related vocabulary

During this lesson I use background music where facilities allow (most of my classroom friendly music is on my flash card).

Warming-up

You should prepare 3 sheets of paper with questions, stick them out in 3 corners of your classroom and offer students to answer these issues.

Question 1-What is your favourite music?

Question 2-Is there any kind of music you can’t stand? What is ir? And why don’t you like it?

Question 3- Is music important: to you, to society, to the world? Why (not)?

They have 10 minutes to do the task.





Now, dear pupils can you formulate what are we going to talk about during the lesson?

Today we are going to speak about music and styles of music.

Music occupies an important place in our life. We can’t live without it. People have different musical tastes depending on their age, education and even mood.


Let’s sing a song. After listening be ready to name the singer, the genre of it and share your impressions with your classmates about it.

In next step you will need five or six photos of a range of well known musicians or groups. Knowing the class well helps make your choices. You should ask about the musical genres of these bands or singers and some interesting facts from their career. Ask them to discuss in pairs who they are and what music they are known for. This is why it’s easier to choose very famous musicians, everybody will have more to say (even if it’s a tad cynical at times). Then I bring the class together for a whole class activity which hardly leads to producing long spoken turns but gets everybody active and communicating, not to be underestimated.






At the blackboard you can see some phrases about music. Do you agree or disagree?

Music builds a bridge between all peoples and all lands;

Music is the link which holds us close together;

Music is the bond of love in which we all clasp hands.


Now let’s check how many words you remember from our lesson today, all of them were taken from the song which we were singing at the beginning of our lesson.

Your task will be to translate them.
