Introduction
Good morning, students. I’m glad to see you. How are you today? What day is it today? (day of the week, date, month). What is the weather like today? Before we start our new topic I want to ask you some questions.
What do you use to communicate with friends or parents?
What do you use to take pictures?
What do you use to listen to music and to watch videos?
Name all these things with one word. Yes, they are gadgets. So, students, we have great plans for today. We will speak, read, listen about gadgets, speak about our future predictions. We'll revise all future forms. Let's do our best!
Main part
Speaking
Now let’s start our talk about gadgets. Open your books on page 48. Look at the pictures at the top of the page and read the names of the gadgets. Look at the task in Ex.1. (СЛАЙД 3)
Which of the gadgets do you use?
What for?
A: I use a mobile phone to call my family and friends or to send emails. I also use it to take pictures. What about you?
B: I also use my mobile phone for that, but I also play games on it and listen to music …
Reading
Look at Ex. 2 p. 48. Before we start to read the dialogue, look at the words in bold. Write them down in your vocabularies. (СЛАЙД 4)
affection [ə´fekʃn] – привязанность, любовь
button [bᴧtn] – кнопка
computerised [kəm´pju:təraizd] – компьютеризированный
press – нажимать
virtual pet [´və:tʃuəl] – виртуальный питомец
come off it – забыть, отказаться от идеи
have a point – иметь смысл
Look at the picture in the dialogue. What type of gadget do you think it is? What is it used for?
It is a virtual pet. It is used to look after a pet but not real.
Read the first exchange in the dialogue. What is Bridget going to buy? In what kind of shop do you think she can find a virtual pet?
Bridget is going to buy a virtual pet. She can find a virtual pet in an electronics shop.
Listen to the dialogue and then read in pairs.
Chris: Hey, Bridget! Where are you going?
Bridget: Hi, Chris. I’m on my way to buy a virtual pet.
Chris: What are you talking about? What is a virtual pet?
Bridget: Well, my mum says I can’t have a real dog so I am going to get a computerised one.
Chris: A computerised dog?
Bridget: Yes, Chris, I’m going to buy a puppy, name it, feed it, and train it. All I have to do is press buttons on the gadget!
Chris: So when your virtual dog is hungry, you press a button that shows you are feeding it?
Bridget: Exactly! There is a button for walking it as well. It will be like having a real dog, because you have to take care of it every day.
Chris: Oh, come off it! It won’t be like a real pet because it won’t show you any affection!
Bridget: Well... You have a point there. Still I like the idea.
Well done! Now answer the questions:
Who wants to buy a virtual pet? – Bridget wants to buy a virtual pet.
Why does Bridget want a virtual dog? – Bridget wants a virtual dog because she can’t have a real one.
How is Bridget going to take care of her virtual dog? – She is going to name it, feed it, train and walk it.
What is Chris’ attitude to the idea of a virtual dog? – Chris thinks that a virtual dog can’t be like a real pet because it won’t show its affection.
Open your copybooks. Write down the date. Look through the dialogue again and complete the sentences below it. (Ex. 3 p. 48)
1 Bridget is going to buy a virtual pet.
2 A virtual pet is a computerised pet.
3 When the virtual pet is hungry you press a button that shows you are feeding it.
4 A virtual pet can’t show any affection.
Match the words in bold in the dialogue to their definitions: (СЛАЙД 7)
a machine controlled by a computer - computerised
a very young dog - puppy
love - affection
an electronic pet - virtual pet
be right about something - have a point
to watch and protect - take care of
don’t be silly - come off it
small objects on a machine that you press to make it work – buttons
At our last lesson we spoke about predictions and made sentences in Future Simple.
Now we’ll work with the Future forms (структурами, которые выражают будущее время).
Ex.4 p.49
Read the sentences. What are the tenses in bold? Use the Grammar Reference section in your books to say how they are used. (СЛАЙД 9)
