Этап 1
Пишем на доске вопрос:
Why do people learn a new language?

Даем варианты ответов:
Because they want to get a good job.
To be able to communicate when they travel.

Этап 1.2.

Раздаем учащимся карточки. Каждый размышляет над актуальностью полученного довода и дает свои комментарии в классе.

1. English is the most commonly spoken language in the world. One out of five people can speak or at least understand English!

2. English is the language of science, of aviation, computers, diplomacy, and tourism. Knowing English increases your chances of getting a good job in a multinational company within your home country or of finding work abroad.

3. English is the official language of 53 countries. That is a lot of people to meet and speak to.

4. English is spoken as a first language by around 400 million people around the world.

5. English is the language of the media industry. If you speak English, you won't need to rely on translations and subtitles anymore to enjoy your favourite books, songs, films and TV shows.

6. English is also the language of the Internet. Many websites are written in English – you will be able to understand them and to take part in forums and discussions.

7. English is based on a simple alphabet and it is fairly quick and easy to learn compared to other languages.

8. English is not only useful – it gives you a lot of satisfaction. Making progress feels great. You will enjoy learning English, if you remember that every hour you spend gets you closer to perfection.

9. Since English is spoken in so many different countries there are thousands of schools around the world that offer programmes in English. If you speak English, there're lots of opportunities for you to find an appropriate school and course to suit your academic needs.

10. Because it's fun! By learning English, you will also learn about other cultures. Few experiences will make you grow as a person more than learning the values, habits and way of life in a culture that is different from yours.

 

 Этап 2:

Делим учащихся на пары и просим записать как можно больше причин почему люди изучают иностранные языки за три минуты..

 Этап 3

Собираем все ответы и обсуждаем всем классом.

 

Этап 4

Говорим учащимся, что они собираются посмотреть небольшой видеоролик (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=1YQF_VkzuDU) в котором они увидят трех учеников, объясняющих, почему они изучают иностранный язык. Задание учащимся понять и записать все причины. Видео останавливается в 00:41. 

Этап 5
Проверяем ответы студентов:
Student 1: “…because it will help me succeed at school.
Student 2: ”…to make my family proud.” “…to graduate from college.”
Student 3: “…to get a good job.”

 

Этап 6
Просим в парах учеников назвать свои причины почему они изучают иностранный язык.

 

Этап 7
Обсуждаем все полученные результаты в классе.

 

Этап 8
Говорим учащимся, что трем героям видеоролика был задан еще один вопрос:
What do you want to after this course/in the future?
Опять просим студентов зафиксировать услышанные ответы:
Показываем видео с 1:15 и останавливаем на 1:48

 

Этап 9
Проверяем ответы учащихся:
Student 1: “Maybe, one day, I would like to teach, too.”
Student 2: “Maybe I’ll keep going and get my Master’s degree.”
Student 3: “I know I will go far. I fell much more confident in my ability to communicate.”

 

Этап 10
Обращаем внимание учащихся на использование «would like» и «will» для выражения желаний в будущем.

 

Этап 11
Просим учащихся обдумать следующие вопросы:
What would you like to do after this course has finished?
How will your English have improved after this course?
What will you be able to do with your English that you can’t do now?

Делим студентов на небольшие группы для обсуждения данных вопросов.

 

Этап 12
Каждый учащийся формирует свое мини высказывание на основе обсужденных ранее вопросов.

 

Домашнее задание
Учащиеся пишут эссе на тему возможности использования иностранного языка в их будущей карьере.
