I. Оргмомент

1. I’m glad to see you here today. You see, our lesson today is a bit unusual – we have guests. I hope you will be attentive, you’ll work hard and do your best.

2. Today we will continue working on our topic which is Natural World. Actually, we have been working on this topic for a few weeks and I think we have done a lot. What have we talked about?

II. Презентация темы урока

1. Today we’ll discuss one more aspect of this bib topic. Watch the video and guess what the topic of today’s lesson is. It’s a special present for …

2. Watching a video (2.30 min) – Peppa – Sun, sea and snow (1-1.42, 2.56-3.46, 4.07-4-40)

3. Guessing the topic, why they think so.

4. True/false:

They are planning a trip to London.

The weather forecast says it will be sunny.

The weather forecast is not correct.

It’s a perfect day for going to the seaside.

The mothers don’t want to go for a swim.

5. Did you like the cartoon? Why?

So, our topic for today is weather forecast.

What do you think we will do today? (беседа фронтально)

Today we will…

Listen to a weather forecast

Learn the weather forecast for the following week

Read a text about forecasting weather

Learn new words and sayings on the topic “weather”

And is this topic important? Why? (беседа фронтально)

By the way, there is one more reason. Look at the screen, read the quotation and translate it into Russian.

Don’t knock the weather. If it didn’t change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn’t start a conversation.

Kin Hubbard (1868—1930), American cartoonist, humorist, and journalist

So, why is this topic so important? (ответы) Look at the cartoon and read what the man in glasses/the woman says. What is small talk in Russian?

III. Повторение лексики по теме

1. But we won’t be able to speak on this topic if we don’t brush up the vocabulary. As you remember, the first part of your homework was to do ex. 1 p. 80 and prepare a word web with the words describing weather. Which of the can we use to describe a day in spring and autumn/winter/summer? (по 1 ученику плюс дополнения).

2. Now, some of you will get a card with the word on it. You task is to explain the meaning of the word so that we can guess this word. Be careful and don’t pronounce the word, we have to guess it.

And now we will listen to a weather forecast. Take a copy, look through it. What do you have to do? (fill in the gaps)

How many mistakes does your partner have?

V. Чтение: Ex. 3 p. 80

Your home task was to read the text about forecasting the weather in the past and now.

Is the text easy or difficult? What new words and expressions have you found in the text?

Answer the questions on the text:

Why is so important to know the weather forecast?

What do meteorologists do? What equipment do they use?

How did people forecast the weather in the past?

Why were weather forecasts so important for sailors and farmers?

What new facts have you learnt from the text?

What is the title of the text? What does it mean?

What advice does the text give us?

VI. Введение новой лексики: ex. 4-5 p. 80-81

So, the author of the text recommends us to use the old methods of predicting the weather and learn the old sayings. Ex. 4 will help us to do it.

Read the task, complete the gaps (2 minutes), listen and check (1 minute), read and translate.

Are there similar sayings in our country? Which of them seem strange and unusual?

Ex. 5 p. 80: 1) read the task, match the words, 2) check (1 ученик), 3) complete the dialogues (подготовка, чтение 1 ученик)

СЛАЙД scorching ['skɔːʧɪŋ] – палящий, жаркий, знойный

As you see, we have learnt some of the sayings and new words on the topic “ weather forecast” and I think we are ready to speak.

VII. Говорение: «Прогноз погоды»

1. And where can we find a weather forecast? (on TV, on the radio, in newspapers, on the internet).

2. How do you learn about the weather?

3. As for me, I prefer the Internet – I usually learn the weather forecast from Gismeteo. As I have promised, here is the weather forecast for the following week. (СЛАЙД) Look at it and say what the weather will be like in Bryansk.

4. As you know, gismeteo is a global site – it gives you information about all the continents and countries. For our next task, I have chosen four places – London, Sydney, Moscow and Norilsk in Krasnoyarsk Region. You work in groups of four, get a weather forecast for one of these places, discuss it in groups, choose a speaker who presents it and then we guess the city and white it down. In the end, we check the key and find out which team has more correct answers. You have 1 minute to get ready.

5. Presentation (each team writes down the number of the speaker and the city).

6. Talkback, which team has more correct answers.

VIII. Введение новой лексики: идиомы

Now I see you have some social skills, can make a small talk about the weather. As we know, it is a very popular topic and there are many idioms about the weather. Let us learn some of them in ex. 6 p. 81.

Each idiom:

Look at the picture. What can you see in it?

Read the idiom, explain it.

Is there a similar idiom in your language?

Fill in the gaps in the sentences (подготовка, фронтальная проверка).

IX. Аудирование: песня

As, you remember to feel under the weather means “to be slightly unwell or in low spirits, in a bad mood”. Look at the illustration to the idiom once more. What kind of weather can depress us? How do you feel when it’s raining?

Look at the picture on the screen. What does the girl say?

Now your task will be to listen to a song about walking in such weather and fill in the gaps. What is the first line of the song? What does it mean?

Listening (3 минуты)

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head (B.J.Thomas)

Raindrops keep falling on my head

And just like the guy (парень) whose feet are too big for his 1…………….

Nothing seems to fit

Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

So I just did me some talking to the 2……………

And I said I didn't like the way he got things done

Sleeping on the job

Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

But there's one thing I know

The blues (хандра, тоска) they send to meet me won't defeat (одержать победу) me

It won't be long till 3………………… steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep falling on my head

But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning 4…………….

Crying's not for me

'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining (жалуясь)

Because I'm 5………………

Nothing's worrying me

Key:

Check the words in the gaps (фронтально, далее ключи на экране)

Find in the lyrics the English equivalents to the following word combinations:

Я как великан в кровати той, что не по мне; В мире всё не так; Я поговорил с солнцем; Я сказал, что недоволен его работой; Я не поддамся хандре; Но это не значит, что я заплачу; дождь не остановить рыданьем.

How does the singer feel?

What is the main idea of the song? Do you agree with it?
