ПОЯСНИТЕЛЬНАЯ ЗАПИСКА


Методические рекомендации разработаны для выполнения практических заданий по дисциплине «Иностранный язык » по специальности ОДБ 46.02.01. «Документационное обеспечение управления и архивоведение»

Данные методические рекомендации могут быть использованы в дополнительном профессиональном образовании, в программах повышения квалификации и переподготовки специалистов в сфере архивоведения.

Основными этапами практического занятия являются:

- проверка знаний студентов – их теоретической подготовленности к занятию;

- инструктаж, проводимый преподавателем;

- выполнение заданий, работ, упражнений;

- последующий анализ и оценка выполненных работ и степени овладения студентами запланированными умениями.

В соответствии с требованиями ФГОС СПО выполнение студентами практических занятий должно включать как обязательный компонент практические задания с использованием персональных компьютеров.


В результате выполнения практических заданий студент должен знать:


-лексический (1550-1600 лексических единиц) и грамматический минимум, необходимый для чтения и перевода (со словарем) иностранных текстов профессиональной направленности.


В результате выполнения практических заданий студент должен уметь:


- общаться (устно и письменно) на иностранном языке на профессиональные и повседневные темы;

- переводить (со словарем) иностранные тексты профессиональной направленности;

- самостоятельно совершенствовать устную и письменную речь, пополнять словарный запас.


Методические рекомендации включают в себя:


Планирование практических занятий;

Критерии оценки выполнения работ и степени овладения студентами запланированных умений;

Формы выполнения практических работ.

Практические задания, сопровождающиеся указаниями для их выполнения;

Критерии оценки выполнения практических заданий


Критериями оценок по дисциплине «Иностранный язык (английский)» являются следующие:


Оценка «5» ставится , если студент

- без ошибок выполняет практическое задание;

- переводит текст без ошибок и неточностей;

-может правильно ответить на вопросы преподавателя и обосновать свои суждения;


Оценка «4» ставится, если студент

-допускает 1-2 ошибки при выполнении практического задания,

- умеет исправить допущенные ошибки и недочеты самостоятельно;


Оценка «3» ставится, если студент

-выполняет практическое задание с 3-4 ошибками;

-выполняет перевод текста, но затрудняется ответить на вопросы;

-допускает грамматические и лексические неточности.


Оценка «2» ставится, если студент

-не может выполнить практическое задание;

-не может перевести текст и ответить на вопросы преподавателя.

A. A commercial establishment at a resort destination such as a recreational area, a scenic or historic site, a theme park, a gaming facility or other tourist attraction may compete with other

businesses at a destination. Consequently, another quality of a this resort is that it offers food, drink, lodging, sports and entertainment, and shopping within the facility so that guests have

no need to leave the facility throughout their stay.

B. Towns which are resorts — or where tourism or vacationing is a major part of the local activity — are sometimes called resort towns. They are by the sea they are called seaside resorts. In—

land resorts include ski resorts, mountain resorts and spa towns.

C. A holiday village is a type of self—contained resort in Europe, where the accommodation is generally in villas. A holiday camp in the United Kingdom refers to a resort where the accommodation is in chalets. The term "holiday park" is used for a resort where the accommodation includes static caravans and chalets.

D. In the United Kingdom, many seaside towns have turned to other entertainment industries, and some of them have a good deal of nightlife. The cinemas and theatres often remain to become host to a number of pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Most of their entertainment facilities cater to local people and the beaches still remain popular during the summer months.

E. An all—inclusive resort charges a xed price that includes most or all items. At a minimum, most inclusive resorts include lodging, unlimited food, drink, sports activities, and entertainment

for the xed price. In recent years, the number of resorts in the United States offering "all-inclusive" amenities has decreased dramatically; in 1961, over half offered such plans and in 2007,

less than ten percent do so.

F. A spa resort is a short term lodging facility with the primary purpose of providing individual services for spa—goers to develop healthy habits. Historically many such spas were developed at

the location of natural hot springs or sources of mineral waters. Typically over a seven—day stay, such facilities provide a comprehensive program that includes spa services, physical tness activities, wellness education, healthy cuisine and special interest programming.

G. In North American English, the term "resort" is now also used for a self-contained commercial establishment which attempts to provide for most of a vacationer's wants while remaining on

the premises, such as food, drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping. The term may be used to identify a hotel property that provides an array of amenities and typically includes entertainment and recreational activities.

My friend


I have many friends. Most of them are my former classmates but my best friend is Peter. He is fifteen. Now he is a student of a college. He is a good student because he studies hard and is very diligent. He wants to become a good specialist and he is especially interested in computers. He often helps me with my English lessons and I’m grateful to him for that.

Now I want to tell you about his appearance. He is rather tall and strong. He has an oval face, straight nose, dark-brown hair, blue eyes and a nice smile. People find him good-looking.

Peter goes in for sports. He plays football and basketball well. His basketball team is very popular at the college.

My family

Sports


Sport is very popular among people in all the coun­tries of the world. Sport makes people healthy, keeps them fit, more organized and better disciplined. It unites people of different classes and nationalities. Many peo­ple do sports on their personal initiative. They go in for skiing, skating, table tennis, swimming, volleyball, foot­ ball, basketball, body-building etc.

All necessary facilities are provided for them: stadi­ums, sport swimming-pools, skating-rinks, football fields. But, of course, one have to pay for these services.

Sport is paid much attention to in our schools and colleges. Physical training is a compulsory subject. Dif­ferent sports and games are popular with my classmates. All my friends go in for different kinds of sport, such as water sports (that is swimming, sailing, rowing), gymnastics , horse - racing, wrestling , fencing, weightlifting, boxing, football, basketball, volleyball etc.

Physical training lessons at our college are held out- of-doors in summer. When it is cold outside the lessons are held indoors in our college gymnasium.

Professional sport is also paid much attention to in our country. In the city where I live, there are different sport societies, clubs and sport schools. Practically all kinds of sports are popular in our country, but gymnas­tics and tennis enjoy the greatest popularity.

Life in the city


Sometimes you may think that city life is better than village. However there are many advantages and disadvantages of living either in a city or in a village.
There are a lot of facilities for people in the city and they have more opportunities for making money. Children can get a good education. Living in a big city with a large population, you get used to making contacts and in this way you become more socialized. There are large shops, banks, offices, cinemas, hotels, clubs, hospitals etc in and around a city. People have better transport facilities. There are the facilities or electricity, highways, communication, telecommunication, and plumbing. So people can lead a comfortable and enjoyable life. 
But there are some disadvantages too. The cost of living is very high in the city. Most goods and food products are expensive. There is no fresh air and pure water. The pace of life is high. The environment is polluted with dust, smoke, garbage and dioxide gases from factories. The streets are dusty and unclean. So it is hard to lead a healthy life. Many criminal activities often take place in the city. The city is always busy and noisy. There are a lot of vehicles and people on the roads. 
There are also many advantages in village life. Generally, people there live in harmony and peace. They have more friends in the community since it is small. The village people always try to protect their traditional habits and culture. The village has clean air, less noise, pollution and rush, and the environment is very beautiful. The village has few vehicles, so roads are less dangerous for driving or cycling. People can easily get fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and milk. 
Village life also has its bad points. Some people are not well-education. Villagers’ children go to the village school. They have difficulty in keeping up with new developments in their field or profession. They have to face many difficulties in their everyday lives, like travelling problems, entertainment and culture. They have to go to the city to supply some of their needs.

Seasons and weather


There are four seasons in a year: winter, spring, sum­ mer and autumn. Each of them lasts three months.

Summer is my favourite season. June, July and Au­ gust are summer months. When summer comes, the weather gets warmer and sometimes it can be very hot. In summer people spend much time in the open. They find time to go to the forest or to swim in the river. School children like their summer holidays.

Autumn comes in September with the beginning of the school year. It is the time when fruit and vegetables become ripe. It is a very beautiful time of the year when the weather is still warm and the leaves change their colour from green to yellow and red. But then it gets colder. The leaves fall from the trees and cover the ground. Birds fly away to warm countries. Then winter comes.

Winter is usually a cold season. It often snows, rivers and lakes are frozen. The sun sets early and rises late —

Scientific and technical progress


The basis of scientific and technical progress of today is new informational technology which is very different from all the previous technologies. Thanks to up-to-date software and robots new informational technologies can make many processes much faster and transmit information more quickly. It is important today because the quantity of information grows rapidly.
New informational society has its peculiarities. Firstly, more and more employees work in the sphere of service and information. Secondly, more and more huge databases appear to collect and store the information. And finally, information and IT become goods and start playing important part in the country’s economy.
These processes affect social structures and values.
It becomes important to learn to get new knowledge quickly and sometimes to change your qualification. IT can first lead to unemployment, but later create even more workplaces especially for highly qualified professionals. While the hardest work can be performed by robots and routine calculations by computers, in the future people with the most creative mind and numerous fresh ideas will get better career chances.
On one hand technology development gives more access to professional and cultural information and leads to new forms of individual enterprises, but on the other hand there is a danger of total control of private life unless special laws are enforced by the government.
Another danger is “intellectual terrorism” when computer viruses block important programs.
There are other directions of technical and scientific progress of today.
One of them is the development of new ecologically clean sources of energy using sun, gravitation, winds or rain. New kind of transports and new agricultural methods that do not harm our nature are being developed today.
Breakthroughs in science have led to creation of artificial viruses for new medicines and products, body organs for transplantation and productive soils for growing vegetables and crops. Many new materials and technologies are being used in our everyday life.
All these innovations may have influence on our life, social relations and globally on our Earth.
The influence can be very different: from psychological and health problems of children who spend too much time online to an opportunity to prevent genetic diseases for future generations.
But the most difficult problems the humanity faces are global problems.
The first and foremost is ecological problem: pollution of air, water and soil, exhaustion of natural resources. Renewable natural resources such as oxygen, forests, flora and fauna do not have enough time to regenerate. This leads to different changes in climate and nature such as depletion of ozone layer and other things that has not been properly studied by scientists yet.
Other crucial problems include wars, epidemics, and demographic problems.
The only way to solve them is to work globally and in cooperation with other countries. And here the humanity should find a way to use new technologies for the common good. The solution of these problems cannot be postponed because otherwise people will have fewer chances to survive on this planet.

Virtual Reality

Not long ago computers were considered an amazing invention. Today they form part of our everyday lives. The latest thing today is Virtual Reality. A Virtual Reality system can transport the user to exotic locations such as a beach in Hawaii or the inside of the human body. The Virtual Reality system is still in the early stages of its development. At the moment it is necessary to put a large helmet on your head to

see the simulated world and you have to wear a special glove on your hand in order to manipulate the objects you see there. Lenses and two miniature display screens inside the helmet create the illusion that the screen surrounds you on every side. You can "look behind" computer — generated objects, pick them up and examine them, walk around and see things from a different angle.

Already today Virtual Reality is used in medicine. In hospitals, surgeons could plan operations by first "travelling" through the brain, heart or lungs without damaging the body. It is also used in police training schools. In schools pupils could explore the Great Pyramid or study molecules from the inside. Developers of Virtual Reality say its potential is powerful.

The word which comes closest to describing Virtual Reality is "simulator". Virtual Reality technology resembles the flight simulators that are used to train pilots. But of course there are dangers as well as benefits.

MY WORKING DAY

Usually I get up at 7 o'clock on week-days.I do my bed and open the window. Sometimes I do my morning exercises, but not always. Then I go to the bathroom. There I wash myself and clean my teeth. Sometimes I take a shower. After that I go back to my bedroom, dress myself and brush my hair. In five minutes I am ready enough for breakfast. I always have a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich. After breakfast I take my bag, put on my coat and go to the college.

I live not far from my college and it takes me only ten J minutes to walk there. I am never late for the first lesson, because I come to the college a few minutes before the bell. I leave my coat in the cloakroom and go to the classroom. The lessons begin at eight o'clock and at half past one they are over. Sometimes after the lessons I go to the library to I take some books. I usually do my hometask at home. As a rule, I have no free time on my week-days.

Sometimes I have dinner at my college canteen. For dinner I usually have soup for the first course, meat or fish with some salad for the second. I drink milk or a cup of tea.

Twice a week I go to the swimming pool. I play volley­ ball in the college team and we have our training at our big gymnasium.

In the evening all the members of our family get together. We have supper together, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hubby. I like to read detective stories or books of modern writers. At about eleven o'clock I go to bed.

MY DAY OFF

The last two days of the week are Saturday and Sun­ day. They are called the weekend. People don't go to work on weekends. But students and pupils have only one day off. It is Sunday.

Weekend is my favourite time of the week because I don't go to the college. I think Sunday is the best day of the week. On this day I wake up later than usual. And sometimes I don't get up till nine or ten o'clock.'As soon as I get up I air the room, do my bed and do morning exercises. Then I have breakfast and help my Mother about the house.

Mass media


The press, television and radio (mass media) play an important part in the life of the society. They influence the way people look at the world and make them change their views. Some people say, ”News is not what happens – it is what you see or read in mass media.” In other words, mass media shapes public opinion. (Sometimes it is good, but sometimes terribly bad. It depends.)

Millions of people in their spare time watch TV and read newspapers and magazines. Television dominates one`s life if the family watches it most of the time. Television informs, educates, and entertains people. It is also a habit-forming drug impossible to resist.

Various TV games, such as quiz  shows, and music programmes attract a large audience. During TV quiz programmes the questions are answered by the viewers.

Then there are daily TV serials known as soap operas. Some people find them boring, others consider them to be good entertainment and relaxation.

There is also a lot of advertising on TV. A lot of commercial firms buy the time to advertise their goods.

Advertising often annoys the general public. A film, a good basketball or football match may be interrupted several times with advertisements for the soap powder or new perfume.

To convince the viewers that a certain product is the best and to persuade him to buy it takes not only a lot of imagination but also a lot of time. The same advertisements are repeated dozens of time every day, which bores the viewers.

Some people say there is too much violence on television, which has a bad influence on viewers, especially young people. Television often shows scenes of violence.

But it is hardly fair to say that TV doesn`t try to raise the cultural level of the people or develop their artistic taste. Many of TV programmes are excellent: they are made in good taste and with great professional skill. Television brings into millions of homes not only news and entertainment, but also cultural and educational programmes.

Good or bad, television brings the world into our home and makes us closer to other people.

Besides, it is a good company for people who live alone.

OF ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES.

HOUDAYS IN THE USA


Every country has its own holidays. They reflect the history of the country and its cultural and religious traditions. Some religious holidays are common in differ­ent countries. They are Christmas and Easter.

Americans celebrate Christmas on the 25th of Decem­ber. They buy a lot of presents for each other, for their parents, children and friends.

The New Year's day, the 1st of January is not so wide­ly celebrated in the United States as we do it in Russia.

Of course, the most important holiday in America is the 4th of July, The Independence Day. People like to watch colourful fireworks in the evening. The 4th of July is the day-off and people don't go to work.

The holidays when people don't go to work are: Mar­ tin Luther King's day on the 20th of January, Labour Day on the 7th of September and Thanksgiving on the last Friday of November. On Thanksgiving Americans usually eat turkey. This holiday reminds the time when the first colonists (pilgrims) from England came to America in 1620 and could survive in the unknown land. There is still a big white stone on the shore in Plymouth in Massachusetts, that the pilgrims landed on. It is called •The Plymouth Rock*.

The 31st of October is the children's most favourite holiday — Halloween. On this day children are dressed in funny dresses visit their neighbours and say «Trick or treat!* and get sweets.

The rest of the holidays are usually on weekends. They are: the Flag's Day, Mother's Day, Armed Forces Day. Americans also celebrate Lincoln's birthday, Washing­ ton's birthday, President's Day in February.

The 14th of February is Valentine's day or as it is called «Аll Lovers Day».

My career


Students are the future of every country. They are young citizens of our society, full of infinite energy and progressive ideas, fantastic plans and noble ambitions, hopes and dreams. Student life is the brightest period of our life. It is a mixture of studies and great fun.  I know that my parents (ex-students) miss those old good days of their student life.

A student has certain duties to perform. It goes without saying that the primary student duty is studying hard and acquiring proper knowledge for the future career. He must attend all the classes at college, do all the work at the right time, be punctual and disciplined. It can help the student achieve his goals and become diligent and perseverant. If he doesn’t neglect his studies he will receive rich dividends in his future work.

Examination time at the end of each semester is quite tough for students. They spend endless days and nights on studying and cramming. Although some of them use cheating, copying someone’s essays or course works. And you are lucky if you are not caught by the teacher because he can punish you by a poor mark or even by excluding from the college.

Most of the student’s time is devoted to reading and learning. It’s unbelievable but some students manage to deal with part-time jobs because they need a lot of money to study at college or university. Tuition fees and books are very costly nowadays, and if you rent an apartment it’s even more expensive. So students have busy schedules including studies, work and going out to socialize.

A good student never wastes his spare time uselessly. He should also go in for sports to stay in good health and mood. They say: “A sound mind lives in a sound body.” Students love participating in both academic and extra-curricular activities at college: different festivals, intellectual quizzes and summer camps. This social life broadens the mind, develops your talents and communication skills. And this is a wonderful time when you find real friends among your classmates at college.

Finally I’d like to say that it is absolutely great to be a student!

One of the most famous architectural ensembles, the Winter Palace, stands at the beginning of the Palace Embankment. The huge palace was designed and built by Bartolomeo Francesco Rastrelli within eight years, between 1754 and 1762. Another unique museum in St. Petersburg is the State Russian Museum. This treasure ­house of Russian art is situated in Mikhailovsky Palace. The visitors to the Museum today can see the world­ famous display of Russian paintings, sculptures and engravings in its exhibition halls. The heart of St. Petersburg is Palace Square. The Alexander Column in the middle of the square commemorates the victory of Russia in the war against Napoleon. Next to the square you can see the tower of the Admiralty which was founded in 1704 as a fortress and shipyard. The main street of the city, Nevsky Prospect, begins at the Admiralty and runs eastward. It is lined with palaces, churches, shops, restaurants, cafes and theatres. St. Petersburg is famous all over the world for its unique churches and cathedrals. The most wonderful of them is St. Isaac’s Cathedral. The interior of the cathedral is a real artistic treasury with lots of mosaic and painted decorations.



St. Petersburg attracts tourists from all over the world. The best time to visit it is in summer, during the season of White Nights. If the weather is fine, tourists can take a coach tour to the suburbs where they will enjoy Peterhoff with its famous fountains and Pushkin or Pavlovsk. They are former residences of the Russian Tsars, which have been turned into fine museums. The best way to spend time in the evening is to visit the Mariinsky Theatre. And the most enjoyable spectacle at night is the opening of bridges across the River Neva to let cargo ships pass through. In 2003 St. Petersburg marked its 300th anniversary and the renovated museums, palaces, cathedrals and churches are now waiting for new visitors.
